The Philippine islands are rich with mysterious creatures
and strange phenomenon as well as the occasional “bump” in
the night. I myself have witnessed strange happenings on
my trips to the Pilipino islands. I have also heard many
stories of creatures that aren’t exactly… well... Human.
My first experience happened in October last year, just
after I turned 15. My mother, brother and I had landed in
Manila, the capital, and after a long nights flight, we
decided to check into a one of the hotels closest to us.
Now this hotel wasn’t exactly fancy, but nor was it
expensive, so we were fine with that as we were only
staying in for one night, for the next day we would be
catching a boat to the Leyte (Lay-Tee) islands.
I remember when I first stepped in through the entry doors
to the hotel; I felt a rush of cold air brush past me
causing the hairs on my arms to stand on end. I didn’t
take much notice of it since I was mighty tired and in
need of sleep. It would have been around 2am when my first
and most memorable experience happened...
I had just walked into the room I would be spending the
night in when something caught me eye. In the far right
end of my room, I saw what seemed to be a misty black
shadowy figure. It was tall, around 7 ft. It had glowing
red bulbs floating restlessly around where human’s eyes
would have been. It seemed to be staring straight at the
bed from the angle the red eyes. At that same moment, the
room suddenly went deathly cold. I could feel its
presence… and I felt it was evil. Very evil.
The wardrobe door started slamming open and shut
repeatedly and my blanket was mysteriously dragged right
to my feet from 6 meters across the room by unseen hands.
Now that I think about it, it is quite spooky to conjure
up the thought that the figure may have been ‘inviting’ me
to sleep. Imagine that, it dragged my blanket 6 meters
across the room right to my feet, possibly inviting me to
sleep. I stood there, eyes wide open, scared out of my
wits. I could feel my body sway from side to side and my
breathing begin to get heavier. The mist gained shape. It
was the shape of a man… and it turned towards me. Its eyes
turned with his head and they settled just above the
middle of where his face may have been. He seemed to be
staring straight through me. The rest of his body turned
toward me. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t feel my arms or
legs but I was standing, looking at this… humanly shadow
stare straight at me with red glowing eyes. And all of a
sudden it rushed towards me, and evaporated just inches
from my faces. The strange thing was I could feel no brush
of air blow past me. I felt nothing… Just a sense of
relief.
Now I know you all may be thinking that I was sleepy and I
would have been seeing things, but how do you explain the
blanket lying in front of my feet after I snapped back to
reality?
NOT AS IT SEEMS
My family has had many experiences to do with strange
phenomenon (All in the Philippines). I have a few stories
that have been told to me. Now they may and may not be
true… Decide for yourself.
First story
My uncle Pablo and a few of my cousins owned an Apple
orchard. They have recently destroyed it. But one
afternoon, they all went out to pick apples. After jumping
the fence, they were walking down a pathway when my little
cousin Marco, screamed and ran off. The rest of the group
were shocked and stood there wondering why Marco had run
off when suddenly an apple core fell from the tree that
they were standing over. Apparently they saw a dark
skinned man, and instead of a human head, it had a horses
head and horses legs, but instead of hooves at the end of
the legs he had only hands… No feet. Strange isn’t it? I
don’t know if they were just telling the story for a
laugh, but then again they were pretty shaken up when they
got back!
Second Story
Along time ago there was supposedly a female vampire that
lived not very far away from my Grandparents. Now
this “Vampire” was said to come out only at night and,
well, if you were outside at the time, she would chase
you, rip your skin, and suck on a vein either in your neck
or your wrist? I’m not sure which, but she never used her
teeth to pierce your skin.
Now my cousin happened to be walking home late one night,
drunk, straight from the pub a few streets down. He
currently lived with my grandparents at the time. He
wasn’t a very bright man, but he wasn’t stupid either. He
had heard stories of this vampire, and although he had
never met her, he always carried with him a copper cross.
As the story goes he was walking through abit of forest,
taking the shortcut home when he saw a misty white
whirlwind, very strange as it was meant to be a “dead”
calm night. He so scared and was
stricken with so much fear that he couldn’t move, only
watch as it approached him. The whirlwind apparently
stopped just a meter in front and turned into a somewhat
ghastly deformed woman. The woman (supposedly the Vampire)
cursed and looked mightily distressed as she circled him,
but seemed to be prevented from going any further. This
went on for around 10 minutes when she finally gave up
and “whirl winded” away.
My grandparents awoke to the sound of my cousin screaming
his lungs off, running towards home. This happened 12
years before I was born though and the vampire is meant to
have died. But this still sends shivers down my spine when
I go to visit my grandparents!
Third Story
I have also heard stories of vampires that turn into
animals. These animals have glowing red eyes and will
attack any human that comes near them. I was told that one
night, my uncles caught a pig that had glowing red eyes; I
don’t know HOW they caught it! But they did, and they
locked it in the barn. The next morning, they opened the
barn door slightly to check inside, and the pig was gone.
All that was left was blood. Blood covered the walls, and
the straw, and a few rodents were left dead.
How did the pig escape when the windows and barn door was
securely locked? The windows were broken and there were no
holes for the pig to escape from. Also, why is it, that if
it was a normal pig, that only the guts of the rodents
were strewn across the floor? Wouldn’t the pig have eaten
them? And the last question that baffles me is where did
all the blood come from? The rodents wouldn’t have had
enough blood to cover the WHOLE of the barn!
There are a lot more stories I have that my family have
told me about. Such as half bodies. When a person dies,
and they are buried in a certain area, sometimes at night,
the top half of their body crawls its way out of the
coffin and the earth and floats around the paddocks, ready
to find someone to hunt down to… well… Eat them. Or the
Ape-like man that appears under a large tree smoking a
cigar… If you irritate him, he will chase you. If you get
too close, he suddenly disappears.
All I can say is the next time you travel to the
Philippines watch out for the creatures that lurk in the
dark. Please feel free to email me or add me to MSN
Messenger if you have any comments or past experiences
that you would like to share with me. Thankyou for taking
the time to read my stories. It is up to you to decide
whether you think it is true or not.
